Example F: Neumed document with illuminated initial letter.
Example of a manuscript page with large initial letter 'R' [Paris, Bibliothèque nationale, MS lat. 776]. The inital letters were often richly decorated. Evidence suggests that at least three monks would be involved in writing such a manuscript: an artist would create the initial letter, a scribe would write in the text, and a music notator would write the music notation. |
